2016 David Moreau Cuvée “S”, Santenay

Enchanting Rebirth

It is remarkable to watch the enchantment of Spring, isn’t it?  In just a few days, green buds will emerge from lifeless-looking sticks, producing new foliage, brilliant colors, and refreshing hope.  The circle of life, witnessed as the seasons pass, is truly a gift from Above.  Marvelous.

Along the same lines, the Moreau estate is now in the hands of David, as his grandfather decided to hang it up and retire, passing on his vines.  It is now David’s turn to carry the torch of winemaking excellence, giving the estate a new perspective and breath of fresh air.  And so far, he is simply rockin’ it.

The Cuvée “S” was made of Pinot Noir that was sourced from a single hectare in Santenay, the most southern wine region in the Côte de Beaune, France.  The cuvée pays homage to David’s grandparents as this was their first plot, named les Cornières.  Cornouiller is French for dogwood tree which grows in this area.

This red Burgundy offers primary aromas and flavors of ripe red raspberries, pomegranate, white tea, tarragon, and juniper.  Secondary notes include nutmeg and allspice.  Tertiary notes unfolded to forest floor, autumn leaves, and portabella mushroom.  This wine was dry, with medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, medium (+) aroma and flavor intensity, medium (+) body, and medium (+) tannins that were soft and well-integrated.  The finish was long.

Cheers to rebirth.
