2017 Castello di Ama Purple Rose Rosé, Toscana

Deck-Sipping Rosé

There is just something peaceful about sitting outside on your deck, sipping a glass of rosé.  Right?  Flowers are blooming, trees are bursting with buds, birds are flitting around for mates, and rosés are streaming sunlight into your glass.  Perfect perfection.

To welcome spring, the cork was pulled from the 2017 Castello di Ama Purple Rose rosé from Tuscany.  Made with 96% Sangiovese and 4% Merlot, this saignée rosé wine was made by drawing off a portion of the juice destined for red wine production.  After just 12 hours of skin contact to abstract its deep salmon color, fermentation was carried out in both stainless-steel tanks and second-year oak barriques.  Oak in this case offers the wine better color stability and enhanced aroma and flavor complexity to excite your taste buds.

The 2017 Purple Rose rosé offered primary aromas and flavors of red raspberry, watermelon, pineapple rind, mandarin orange zest, stone, and a flake of fleur de sel.  This wine was dry, with medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, medium aroma and flavor intensity, and medium (+) body.  The finish was medium.

Cheers to spring.
