2014 Department 66 D66 Côtes Catalanes

Slurping Fancy

BYOB and small-cork-fee restaurants are super-duper, aren’t they?  This way, you drink the wine that suits your slurping fancy.  Tonight, was date night—a time to check all worries at the door and truly spend time talking, listening, and flirting.  Sitting outside next to the water, we relished the sun setting over nearby trees, the lapping of waves, and each other’s company.

Produced by Department 66, the 2014 D66 was the wine choice for our quick getaway.  This wine was made from Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan grapes sourced from the Côtes Catalanes, the southeast corner of France in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.  Primary aromas and flavors included red raspberry, cassis, cardamom, black pepper, dried lavender, and stone.  Secondary notes included vanilla crème brûlée and clove.  Tertiary notes included tobacco and blueberry preserves.  This wine was dry, with medium acidity, high alcohol, medium (+) aroma and flavor intensity, medium (+) body, and medium tannins that were silky smooth.  The finish was medium (+) offering continued spiciness.

It is special when you can check-in with your loved one from time to time, diving into their soul and heart.  It is even better when you linger with each other a little longer, sharing a scrumptious bottle of wine.
